NYMR OO gauge model railway
This website shows details of my ongoing project to recreate in miniature, the historic North Yorkshire Moors Railway station at "Goathland".
Why did I create this site?
I had been uploading the pictures I had taken via Facebook for a while which people had found interesting and they got quite a few "likes", but some friends didn't have access to that particular site.
So I thought I would create this website so they and others on the internet could see the ongoing creation for themselves.
A little bit about Goathland Station.
The actual station is famous for being a fully working visitor attraction where you can travel by steam train to the coast at Whitby and also for being used by film and TV.
It was used as Hogmead's station in the film version of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and also as the resident station in the much loved Heatbeat television series.
This station (originally known as Goathland Mill) is on the deviation line opened by the North Eastern Railway in 1865 to avoid the cable-worked Beck Hole Incline, which was part of the original 1836 Whitby and Pickering Railway route.
I started the project in August 2011 after travelling from Goathland to Whitby on holiday earlier that year, it was actually the second time I had been there, but on the original trip I didn't stay for long so had no time to take photos.
My hope is that when it is finished I will be able to exhibit it on the local model railway circuit in Kent.
The construction.
I have created all the buildings from scratch, the only structure purchased ready made is the pedestrian bridge thats spans the two platforms, which I use for scale, the rest of the buildings are all made from flat plasticard, resin and expoxy putty.
Most of the buildings have have led lighting installed, the posters and various signs on the model are taken from photos of the actual posters and signs, scaled down on my computer and the processed on kodak photo paper.
My aim is to make it as accurate as possible using photographs, google street view/maps and my own memory.
