At the begining of 2012 most of the base structure was complete, so over the next few months I started adding detail to the buildings and background. Some of the detail is created by weathering. I started by weathering the track, this is done by painting the edge with a rusty coloured enamel paint and then wiping the excess off on top with a cotton bud (the top of the track where contact is made with the wheels must be completely free from paint if you want smooth running). Any paint that has dried in the wrong place can be removed with a blade or a track rubber. The buildings have been weathered in a couple of different ways, I created some weathering using an airbrush, and some using artists pastel chalks. With the chalks, shading effects and weather effects were created by drawing directly on the model then using a finger to blend the colours. If you decide to use chalks remember to seal them afterwards with a coating of spray varnish, otherwise they wll rub off (usually on your favourite clothes).
